Why I liked this title:

Aremis Slake is alone in the world and has no family. He is small and struggles with poor eyesight which makes him the target of ridicule for other kids. After being teased and bullied by his classmates and teacher, thirteen-year-old Aremis Slake flees into the subways of New York City to escape his tormentors. He does not come up from the subways for 121 days. During this time he discovers that his life has value and that he has buried deep in his psyche a will to survive and to come out of the darkness and into the light. I especially appreciate reading about strong characters who are survivors even if their lives are hard.
