Why I liked this title:
At Mica Area High School, there are unwritten social rules: Dress like everyone else, talk like everyone else, and above all, don't stand out. Even the dorks and nerds conform to the accepted rules of dorkiness! And then - along comes Stargirl. She is a girl who doesn't know the meaning of "fitting in." She wears long, flowing dresses. She puts a flower on her desk in each class. She carries around a ukelele and a pet rat. She dances in the rain. And a shy boy named Leo discovers that when he is with Stargirl he feels free and alive. But when the rest of the school shuns her, Leo has a terrible choice to make: Does he want to belong to the group, or does he want to be with a girl who makes him truly happy? If you have ever felt that conformity comes with a price, you will love this book about being true to yourself.
