Why I liked this title:

In his last year of high school, Jack Gantos, the famous author of the Joey Pigza books for children, found himself living alone in Florida with little chance of going to college to study writing, which he really wanted to do. While in Florida he participated in a drug deal which cost him most of his savings, and when he arrived on St. Croix to live with his family he made the biggest mistake of his life. This biography is basically about the 15 months Gantos spent in a federal prison for smuggling drugs from the island. Growing up means making mistakes but what is fascinating here is seeing such a brutal, depressing, and frightening mistake through Gantos' eyes as he reveals truthfully what he was like and how far that was from what he wanted to become-- a writer.

This title is also available on compact disc.
