Why I liked this title:

For anyone with an interest in people with special needs, this is the book to read. It is a very well written story about a 12 year old girl, Catherine, whose younger brother, David, has autism. She loves him, but also feels embarrassed by his behavior and angry that she has to baby-sit for him. David understands rules, so Catherine has made a list of them for him and for herself. These rules also cleverly appear as chapter headings in the book. Catherine wants to become friends with the new girl next door, but worries about how she will feel about David. At the same time, Catherine becomes friends with a boy who is in a wheelchair and uses pictures to communicate. It is these relationships that help Catherine understand her brother in a new way and help her to come to a new level of acceptance.

This is such a great book. It gives the reader insight into what it is like to be the sibling of a child with disabilities. The reader can't help but be drawn to Catherine's struggles of trying to make new friends and fit in while juggling a difficult home life. Catherine's friendship with Jason is very touching and special. I can't wait to read another book by this author. She writes such strong characters.
