Why I liked this title:
This book starts out like a local news commercial teaser, “Mother abandons children in mall parking lot…story at 10.” In the first book in Voigt’s Tillerman saga, 13-year-old Dicey Tillerman is now responsible for her three younger siblings. Armed only with a road map and seven dollars, Dicey steers the family on foot from Massachusetts to her Aunt Cilia’s house in Connecticut, the destination she assumes her mother intended before disappearing. While a bit long, this book is a compelling read. These richly developed characters may be abandoned, but their strength to overcome adversity is amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
